What is Divorce Mediation?

How it Works

In mediation, spouses will work with a neutral, expert mediator to identify each issue the divorce may involve, including asset identification and division, insurance continuation, support, retirement and all child related issues. In addition, other issues specific to your family are identified and resolved. For each issue, the mediator will explain the law, hear what is important to you, and help you develop options.

You will then reach a fully customized Divorce Agreement, specific to your family. These out of court Agreements have proven to be far more long lasting and favorable than in a Judge’s ruling. The mediator will then draft all documents and you will review (and have an independent lawyer review if you wish). The full package will be ready to file with the court and the mediator will give you instructions for your uncontested court hearing.

My style of Mediation

I believe that with the proper information and the help of a facilitator or mediator, people in conflict and transition can take control of their own lives and settle their disputes with dignity and affordably. I acknowledge, and encourage the parties to acknowledge, that most disputes originate from a good relationship which has gone astray in a family, business or community. I enjoy getting in the “messy middle” and helping people resolve these differences so they can grow and begin to embrace a more satisfying life and way of being.

I hope to help you with compassion and humor, friendliness and respect. I am persistent in my my belief that you have it in you to come to your own solutions! And I will remind you of this!

MEDIATION FEES & COSTS

Divorce Mediation fees are substantially more affordable than a two lawyer contested divorce. At our half hour informational session, I will learn more about your family’s needs, and advise of the mediation fee required. My goal is transparency and we will both sign a written agreement. Unfortunately, I can’t estimate a fee in an email inquiry or call into my assistant, as every family is different and has different needs. Some have children, some don’t, some have complex financial issues, some don’t. I can assure you this- the financial cost of mediation is much lower (some estimate 80% lower) than a two lawyer litigation. In addition, you will make the choices about your future privately and will save the emotional harm and cost to you and your children. You can book an online session for you and your spouse on the Contact Page of this site at a discounted rate.
